JULIE TOMAINO
Julie is a theatre professional specializing in choreography, stage direction, and dance education. She spent thirteen years living and working in New York City, most notably as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall from 2005 – 2011. Other performance credits include Louise on the US National Tour of CRAZY FOR YOU; Margie in the ABC Movie remake BYE BYE BIRDIE; a dancer/singer on Celebrity Cruise Lines; and regional productions of THE PRODUCERS (Arts Club), CHICAGO (Theatre By The Sea), CABARET, EVITA, MY FAIR LADY & 42ND STREET (MGR Playhouse), FORUM (La Comedia), GUYS AND DOLLS (Shawnee), AND FIORELLO (Snug Harbour).
Julie spent part of the summer in Skagway, Alaska where she served as the choreographer/assistant director for THE DAYS OF ’98 SHOW. She directed and choreographed the Canadian Premier of the musical THE GIRL IN THE FRAME for Intimate Theatre Productions, and also served as the associate director/choreographer for MGR Playhouse/Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival’s groundbreaking production of CABARET (S.A.L.T. Award for Best Choreography). Julie most recently co-produced, directed, and choreographed an indie short film entitled THE WALTZ, which she hopes to see premier on a big screen sometime in the near future.
Other choreographic credits include: the pilot episode of the new TV Drama BLINK; an episode of CityTV’s PACKAGE DEAL (starring Harland Williams); several episodes of YTV’s MR. YOUNG; MY TURQOUISE YEARS (Arts Club); DANCING AT LUGHNASA (Exit 22); JOE SEGAL: AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE (assoc); the 2011 SCOTIABANK GREY CUP GALA (assoc); I LOVE YOU BECAUSE (assoc – Intimate Theatre), XANADU (assist – Arts Club); 42nd STREET. (assist – MGR Playhouse); and Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center production of CELEBRATE BROADWAY, starring John Lithgow and Linda Eder (assoc).
Julie was part of the dance faculty at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City for six years. Guest teaching highlights include the Mediterranean Festival of the Arts in Italy, two years with DanzaActiva in Panama, Broadway Dance Center (NYC), The University of Maryland, Metro Movement in Toronto, and Dance Masters of America Conventions across the US. Julie just returned from a whirlwind summer of travel - teaching master classes and setting choreography in Minneapolis, New York, New Jersey, Myrtle Beach, Newport News, Toronto, and Edmonton. She is currently on faculty at Capilano University and Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver.
